Professional Advisors

The Community Foundation of Shelby County is both a resource of information and a vehicle to help you serve your clients. We are 501(c)(3) public charity that enables the highest charitable deductions allowed by law.

We can help your clients create a charitable fund that supports one or more organizations, involves their family in grantmaking, or provides for the ever changing needs in our community. Most of the charitable funds we administer are intended to be endowments that disburse grants in perpetuity, but some are short term or have a defined life span.

The purpose of the charitable fund can be as unique as your client.

Let us help you structure inter vivos or testamentary gifts. We accept many types of gifts and can administer life income arrangements such as Charitable Gift Annuities. We are an alternative to a private foundation and may be able to convert an existing private foundation into a donor advised fund or supporting organization. See the attached comparison (pdf).

We charge no fees to establish a fund or to provide information to you or your client. Our services are supported through quarterly fees to our charitable funds and from gifts of our Community Foundation Partners.

The Community Foundation of Shelby County is one of more than 600 community foundations in the United States. Our role is to administer charitable contributions for purposes designated by the donors. We handle the tedious administrative tasks of bookkeeping, tax filing, due diligence, and check writing for the charitable funds we administer.
